Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence.  -Vince Lombardi

Sports have always been one of the biggest components on my life.  When growing up in a family like mine, where sports is the main topic of discussion, it is essential to know your facts on every sport there is. Whether it be football, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, tennis, or surfing sports has been a critical component of the person I am today.  I find myself drawn to competition and the ability for an individual to push the limits.   It is the hard work and dedication to the sport or anything in life that makes you a champion and produces results.  Countless hours of pain and exhaustion is exactly what winning feeling like.

There was not a season that went by in my life since I was 4 that I did not participate in a sport, from little leagues to division 1 athletic my sports career has taught me more valuable lesson then anything else in my life.  I have participated in almost every sport: baseball (yes, baseball not softball), soccer, lacrosse, tennis, hockey, basketball, cross-country, track, swimming and volleyball.  But of course the sports that I choose to become a lifetime commitment were also the hardest: swimming, cross country and track.  These three sports provided success, setbacks, injuries.  It is these three sports that taught me never to run from a challenge but ALWAYS run toward them because the reward is so much sweeter this way. I continued cross-country and track through college at a division 1: varsity level where I went through even more successes, setbacks, and injuries. I balanced a 40+-hour practice, training, competition, and travel schedule, in addition to academics. I have learned to manage my time by maintaining one or more jobs in college while participating in division one cross-country, volunteering, and being active in a sorority.  This was a true test of my multi-tasking skills.  I excelled in this busy and excited time in my life.

But playing sports was not my only access sports. Whether it be reading, playing, watching, or talking sports, I am constantly intrigued by competition and how far athletes will go to be the best.  I have spent hours enjoying the victories and upsetting the defeats. There have been many nights when my brothers and I would stay up late at night watching west coast sports such as USC and Chargers games, which were of course on PST.

All my guy friends  say I know more about sports then they do and all my girl friends always ask me about a their boyfriend’s favorite team.  I am a die-hard USC, Cubs, Phillies, Giants, and Rangers fan, and take each game and season very seriously.  I was a USC season ticket holder and there is nothing like attending a game at the coliseum. The adrenaline and excitement in the coliseum is contagious.

Let me introduce you to the coolest person you will ever meet, Danielle Ferree, the First. Danielle is the most awesome person in the entire world. Don’t believe me? Ask her about all the places she’s gone cliff diving, or what it’s like to jump off the Manhattan Beach Pier in the middle of the night? Not enough? Ask her to tell you about the L.A. Marathon or meeting Shaquile O’Neal? These are just a mere mortals fun facts, Danielle is also the most positive person I have ever met in my life. She ALWAYS has a smile on her face, seriously, always. To be honest, the only reason I hang out with her is because she laughs at all of my jokes (not all of them are winners). Danielle has a fighting spirit that makes her the fiercest force of nature you’ll ever meet. I thank God everyday for putting this angel is my life, and, just between you and me, I’m a little reluctant to share her amazingness with all of you. Cherish her, I know I do!
